With skyrocketing fuel costs, fuel efficiency is an important aspect of any new vehicle. Many sports ulitly vehicles offer comfort, hauling capability, and size, but are poor on fuel economy.

The 2010 Jeep Grande Cherokee is ranked number 15 out of 27 when compared against other affordable mid-size sports utility vehicles. The new 2010 model is equipped with an exhaust- gas recirculation valve that improves fuel efficiency.

Although the Cherokee has been awarded with numerous accolades, fuel efficiency is somewhat lower than other mid-size SUVS. However, when compared to other off- road only vehicles, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is slightly better than average and even ranks in the category of good.

Although fuel economy does fluctuate based on driver variations as well as driving conditions, one can expect to get about 15 to 16 miles to the gallon when driving in the city and about 20 to 21 miles per gallon highway. These averages can differ when the car is driven harder or at higher speeds than usual. This is comparable, but less than other affordable mid -size SUVs in its class that are not off-roading cars.

On the other hand, when compared to other off-roading vehicles, the Jeep ranks slightly higher than the popular Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder and the Chevy Trailblazer. In addition, the Jeep offers a better ride as well as handling.

The 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers excellent handling, comfort, and luxury. Although fuel efficiency is not poor, it is lower than most sports utility vehicles. However, if you are searching for an off-road only truck, the Jeep Cherokee does offer better fuel economy that most of its reputable counterparts.
